Moqrisset is a calm village in Ouazzane, located in a fertile region surrounded by mountains and green lands. Known for the sense of humanity and hospitality, its people adopt a human-centric approach, transforming their land into a peaceful space. In the opposite of what happens in the urban world, women there hold a strong position in decision making, both inside and outside their households.
The roles of each of the family members are asigned following local standards. In their culture, women and men split tasks.
This model ignites a reflection about gender equity. It is not about equality or justice, it is related to the allocated roles. As free strong and independent women, they enjoy their daily life without conducting any kind of resistance.
This model was illustrated in a wall November 11, by Afrofatcap Ayoub, in partnership with Djebli Club. The graffiti included a quote stated by the author Nora Ephron, and translated into 4 languages: “Be the heroine of your life, not the victim”, to illustrate the potential of women in the region, and the impact the model can have on gender dynamics in the urban life.
