Contemporary art to reshape gender conformity

Rule N°1: Before you draw, observe!

The first program organized by Ta7rir tackled the issue of censorship, gender inequality and conformity present in the visual art discipline in Morocco, since drawing in front of real models is not democratized in local art schools. Ta7rir connected 16 artists with 6 models to draw 50 artworks in 2 hours. The residency took place in l’Uzine Foundation.
Loubna ElHark presented how gender is tackled in cinematography, showing different study cases from Holywood. One of the challenges accepted is drawing models with the opposite gender, drawing the man’s body as woman’s one.

16 artists * 6 models * 50 artworks * 1 exhibition

The 5th of May in Boultek, Casablanca, over 60 visitors gathered around 50 artworks, bringing the subject of censorship in art and gender theory as main challenge. The artists who were present illustrated how can an event present an example of a solution. This exhibition showcased the vision of Ta7rir in promoting freedom of art so can creatives impact their society.

The model was adapted in an art school

ESAV Marrakech hosted an event in partnership with L’Moutalâte Space, replicating the same format made in our first program, with 4 artists, painting in front of a model (men), breaking all stereotypes together.

Don’t worry, you can get a copy

It’s sad that we have to archive the original pieces for future generations of Ta7rir, but we have made copies you can get, now you can select your favorite sketch, and we will prepare it for you.

Ta7rir is a non-governmental organization, launched to support creatives addressing social and economic challenges, with a focus on their freedom in proposing alternative solutions, far from any form of censorship and limitations.
